Information Safety & Capacity Project - Customer Case Study

The ISC Project provides advanced information security and capacity-building support to civil society organizations, human rights activists and independent media whose work makes them frequent targets of hacking. Traditional two-factor methods—time-based tokens, SMS—proved vulnerable to SIM swaps and phishing and were impractical for many users, so ISC needed a stronger, easy-to-deploy 2FA solution.

ISC deployed YubiKey devices (YubiKey 4 and YubiKey NEO) integrated with Google Apps to secure email accounts and admin panels, and moved some email servers outside hostile jurisdictions. The hardware tokens prevented phishing and SIM-swap attacks, were simple for nontechnical users to adopt, and gave journalists and activists stronger protection for sources and reporting along with greater operational security and peace of mind.
