Independent Disability Services (IDS) in Australia protects sensitive health information with YubiKeys

Independent Disability Services (IDS) is an Australian not‑for‑profit that provides personal, domestic and community support to people with disabilities across Melbourne and handles sensitive personally identifiable and medical information. With a small office team, remote on‑call staff and hundreds of field support workers, IDS found its password-plus-authenticator app MFA left staff vulnerable to phishing and posed a security and compliance risk for remote access.

To address this, IDS deployed YubiKeys (YubiKey 5 Nano, 5 NFC and 5C NFC) using FIDO2/WebAuthn for phishing‑resistant, passwordless MFA on Microsoft 365. The keys were quick to set up, deliver one‑touch logins that are significantly faster than authenticator apps, substantially reduce account takeover risk, improve remote access and compliance, and will be rolled out to field workers.
