Freedom of the Press Foundation protects 65+ newsrooms with Yubico

The Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) faces the challenge of protecting journalists from targeted cyber threats, particularly phishing attacks that compromise credentials and endanger sources. To secure their own operations and the journalists they support, FPF partnered with cybersecurity vendor Yubico, adopting the YubiKey for phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication and passwordless login.

Yubico's solution involved deploying YubiKeys for all FPF staff and, crucially, providing free keys to journalists globally through Yubico's Secure it Forward donation program. This enabled FPF's digital security trainers to give journalists a tangible security tool, setting up strong MFA during training sessions. The results include all FPF employee and organizational accounts being secured against phishing, enhanced digital security training, and journalists walking away from sessions with immediate, high-assurance protection for their accounts and work.
