Datadog, a monitoring and security platform, needed to strengthen its authentication practices to protect against phishing. Despite existing multi-factor authentication via SMS and apps, the company sought a more robust solution for all employees, who were considered privileged users due to their access via Google Workspace. The vendor Yubico provided its YubiKey hardware security keys to address this challenge.

The solution involved a phased enterprise-wide rollout of YubiKeys, accelerated by Yubico's YubiEnterprise Delivery service for remote onboarding. This allowed Datadog to securely scale, distributing keys to over 1,100 new hires during the pandemic. The results included protection against phishing and account takeovers for Google accounts and associated apps, creating a strong security culture. Yubico's solution ensured no improper access occurred and provided scalable, trusted authentication for all employees.
