BeyondTrust, a global leader in Privileged Access Management, identified weaknesses in its multi-factor authentication (MFA) strategy that relied on mobile push apps, which were susceptible to phishing and outages. To combat these security risks and reinforce its Zero Trust architecture, the company turned to vendor Yubico for a more secure solution using YubiKey hardware security keys.

Yubico's solution involved deploying YubiKey 5 and 5C Nano keys through its YubiEnterprise Delivery service. This provided a phishing-resistant, passwordless authentication method with fewer technical dependencies. The results included enhanced MFA for all privileged users, reinforced employee education by eliminating risky "click-to-allow" behaviors, and a reduced support burden from push notification failures.
