Atlassian unifies user authentication to improve employee productivity with YubiKeys

Atlassian, a global provider of team collaboration and productivity software with over 4,000 employees and many remote developers, faced fragmented and inconsistent authentication across applications. Multiple methods — including SMS-based OTPs — created administrative overhead, slowed workflows, and increased security risk.

Atlassian rolled out YubiKey 5/5C devices and centralized identity on SSO with enforced 2FA, giving users a single, phishing‑resistant token for cloud and on‑prem access, SSH and SaaS apps. The change eliminated SMS OTPs, reduced required authentications, improved developer experience and productivity, and strengthened protection against account takeovers and man‑in‑the‑middle attacks.
