YouDo enables WEL’s Reserves Market entry with exclusive trading system for interruptible loads

WEL Networks, a New Zealand energy distributor, identified a commercial opportunity to aggregate its industrial customers' interruptible loads for the Reserves Market but lacked the technical solution to do so securely and competitively. Without this capability, they risked missing this growth opportunity. They engaged vendor YouDo to develop a bespoke trading system to address this challenge.

YouDo built TradeWEL, a solution using digital twin technology within Microsoft Azure's IoT service to accurately forecast demand and simulate scenarios. This enabled WEL to safely create and optimize competitive reserve bids. The project was delivered on time and on budget, providing WEL with a technological base for future expansion and building greater resilience into its network for the transition to renewable energy sources.
