WEL Networks launches TradeWEL in under a year with YouDo

YouDo worked with WEL Networks, a lines company in the Waikato, to help them capture a new commercial opportunity. The challenge was that WEL needed a technical solution to securely aggregate interruptible loads from its commercial and industrial customers and participate in the Reserves Market. Without this capability, they risked missing out on a significant growth opportunity that was crucial for their future strategy.

The solution, a bespoke system called TradeWEL, was built by YouDo using digital twin technology within Microsoft Azure. This system enabled precise forecasting and risk mitigation, allowing WEL to safely create competitive offers for the market. The results positioned WEL for major growth, enhanced network resilience for the transition to renewables, and created a technological base for expanding these services across the North Island. YouDo delivered the project on time and on budget, helping WEL shift from a traditional utility to a more innovative company.
