Hakka Bakka is a Chicago fast-casual Indian eatery founded by Kaushik Guha after he left an eight-year career in applied economic consulting. He launched the concept to fill a gap he saw in downtown Chicago—a need for fresh, light Indian lunch options that wouldn’t leave office workers in an “Indian food coma.” The founders also faced the challenge of entering the food-service industry with no prior restaurant experience.

Kaushik trained at Kendall College and developed Kati wraps and other fresh, lighter Indian dishes, then used regular Yelp and customer feedback to refine portion sizes, spice levels, and recipes. The result is a popular downtown lunch spot and Yelp favorite that has carved out a place in Chicago’s food scene by iterating on customer input and staying true to the founders’ vision.
