University of Konstanz generates new insight with self-service BI

The University of Konstanz faced siloed data across faculties and resource‑intensive, paper and Excel‑based reporting that limited interdisciplinary cooperation, timely decision‑making and the quality of statutory and grant reports. Seeking a BI platform with role‑based access, a user‑friendly frontend, rich visualizations, embeddability and mobile access, the University selected Yellowfin’s intuitive BI solution to unify disparate data stores and enable self‑service analytics.

Yellowfin was deployed on top of the University’s PostgreSQL and HSQL databases and integrated with central authentication (LDAP), giving the rector, chancellor, executive board, department heads, academics and administrators secure, anytime access to a single trusted data source. Yellowfin replaced email/Excel/paper workflows with web‑based reporting and dashboards, enabling faster, more accurate reporting to funding and rankings bodies, improving cross‑departmental cooperation and data quality, and meeting internal and external reporting demands more efficiently and with fewer resources.
