A Yaskawa Motoman Case Study
RoadPrintz Inc., a manufacturer of robotic road painting systems, faced the challenge of creating a safe, efficient, and affordable method for painting road symbols like turn arrows and bike lanes. The traditional method of hand-stenciling was costly at $15,000 per mile and posed significant safety risks to road crews. To solve this, RoadPrintz sought a robotic solution and partnered with vendor Yaskawa Motoman.
Yaskawa Motoman provided a GP20HL robot, chosen for its compatibility with the Robot Operating System (ROS) and its hollow-arm design ideal for routing paint hoses. This solution enabled RoadPrintz to develop a mobile robotic system that reduced the crew needed from five workers to two, cutting labor costs per mile from $15,000 to $5,000. The system also increased safety and operational speed by 30%, demonstrating the significant impact of the Yaskawa Motoman technology.
