BWI Group improves welding cycle time with Yaskawa Motoman

BWI Group, a chassis supplier and manufacturer of vehicle brake and suspension systems, needed a world-class robotic welding system to exceed OEM requirements for safety-critical welds on thin-wall suspension components. Their key challenges were ensuring weld quality, preventing non-conforming parts from entering production, and improving cycle time. They reached out to Miller Electric, who then consulted Yaskawa Motoman to design a customized solution.

Yaskawa Motoman, in partnership with Miller Electric, customized four ArcWorld 1200 workcells featuring Motoman MH12 robots and a Vitronic laser seam inspection system. The solution integrated advanced monitoring software to track weld quality and contain non-conforming parts. Implemented at BWI's facility in Mexico, the system significantly improved cycle time, eliminated costly rework, and produced excellent quality welds that exceeded OEM requirements while operating across three shifts.
