The customer, BWI Group, faced a production bottleneck at a 90-degree corner transfer point in their valve assembly line. Seeking a reliable and efficient method for transferring small parts within a compact space, they reached out to Yaskawa Motoman for a robotic automation solution.

Yaskawa Motoman implemented a space-efficient MYS450F SCARA robot equipped with a compliant vacuum tool and sensors. This solution provided high-speed, precise pick-and-place capabilities, synchronizing the transfer of parts between the assembly and testing zones and utilizing a buffer tray. The installation alleviated the bottleneck, creating a more systematic process. The system runs six days a week for twenty hours a day, and while current productivity is around 80 percent, BWI anticipates it increasing to near 90 percent.
