British Telecom (BT), one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, needed to modernize its enterprise content repository and move away from a legacy system that had accumulated over 15 TB of data, including millions of documents and many orphaned files. BT wanted a self-service migration approach that would let end users manage their own content moves while minimizing irrelevant and unstructured data in the new environment.

BT selected Xybion Corporation’s Vital Path Suite, specifically the Migration Studio Desktop application, to support the migration to Microsoft SharePoint. Xybion enabled a scalable server-farm deployment that avoided installing software on 4,800 desktops, and the team moved more than 90% of the data in six months, ultimately transferring over 15 TB into SharePoint within 10 months. The project improved collaboration, streamlined operations, and reduced IT costs and total cost of ownership.
