Xsolla and Turbine Team Up to Create Custom in-game Storefront for the Lord of the Rings Online

The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO), developed by Turbine (now operated by Standing Stone Games), needed to expand global reach and improve conversion in newer territories by supporting alternative, localized payment methods and offering a richly branded, customizable in‑game storefront. To solve this, LOTRO partnered with Xsolla and implemented Xsolla’s Store and Pay Station products.

Xsolla embedded with Turbine and delivered a fully customized in‑game storefront and payment interface in three months (about half the usual timeline), enabling a rotating inventory of over 10,000 custom items, avatar previews, localized pricing, and prioritized regional payment methods from 700+ global options. Xsolla also added subscription management, saved payment preferences, developer‑currency support and auto‑renewal—driving faster launch, broader payment coverage and improved conversion in new markets.
