BMW standardizes 10,000+ workspaces with Xray

The BMW Group, a leading premium automobile manufacturer, faced a significant challenge in its IT strategy. As it embraced Agile methodologies to keep pace with shorter innovation cycles, its legacy test management tool, ALM/Quality Center, was a major blocker. This separate system created complexity, hindered collaboration, and prevented the traceability of requirements. BMW's vision was to have a fully functional, preconfigured DevOps toolchain operational within two days, but the existing setup took 6-8 weeks to get running.

The vendor Xray provided a Jira-native test management solution that replaced the legacy system. This integrated all testing requirements, defects, and requirements within a single environment familiar to their tens of thousands of Jira users. As a result, the BMW Group now has its agile toolchain fully functional within minutes instead of weeks. Xray has proven to be highly scalable and stable, handling millions of test cases and executions. This implementation by Xray allowed BMW to completely discontinue its use of ALM/Quality Center, achieving its vision of a complete, traceable development cycle.
