INCM makes Portuguese legislation easier to access with Xpand IT using 2 AI search technologies

Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda (INCM), the Portuguese public entity responsible for publishing official legislation, faced the challenge of making complex legal texts easily accessible and understandable for both citizens and professionals. Their existing search system was inefficient and required exact legal terminology, creating barriers to access. Partnering with Xpand IT, INCM sought a solution using Azure OpenAI Service to build an AI assistant that could provide reliable, credible answers based strictly on official sources.

Xpand IT developed LIA, an intelligent AI assistant powered by a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach with Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Search. The solution uses hybrid search to interpret natural language queries and provide direct access to specific legal articles, ensuring all responses are factual and sourced from official documents. This provided INCM with a tool that delivers greater accessibility, accurate information, and a simplified understanding of complex legislation for all users.
