Xometry Partnership Allows SiMT to Give Back to Students and Local Economy

The Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SiMT), a division of Florence‑Darlington Technical College, needed new revenue and hands‑on work to offset declining state funding and close a widening manufacturing skills gap. To provide real production experience for students and fund programs, SiMT partnered with Xometry through the Xometry Partner Network and its Additive Manufacturing Lab to take on 3D printing work.

Since joining Xometry in September 2018, SiMT has completed 326 Xometry jobs and earned more than $180,000, with roughly 70% of its 3D printing work coming from Xometry; those profits are reinvested in tuition assistance, training equipment, and student programs. Xometry’s partnership not only brought measurable revenue and a 2018 Xometry Excellence in Manufacturing Award, but also created on‑the‑job opportunities that help SiMT place graduates into skilled local manufacturing roles and strengthen the regional workforce.
