A Xometry Case Study
Autodesk wanted to bring back its hands-on macro keypad assembly for Autodesk University 2024 with a better second-generation design. Working with Xometry, Autodesk aimed to improve fitment and tolerance stack management, make assembly easier for conference attendees, and lower the product’s manufacturing carbon footprint using services including injection molding, overmolding, SLS, and CNC.
Xometry helped Autodesk refine the keypad with a sleeker, more ergonomic enclosure, looser tolerances, added bosses and clips to simplify assembly, and a thinner molded housing that reduced plastic use and overall carbon footprint. Xometry also reused tooling for the keycaps and delivered a satin clear anodized CNC-machined aluminum tray base, helping Autodesk create a more manufacturable, easier-to-build, and more polished macro keypad 2.0.
