Global Distributor Uses Xometry DMLS to Deliver Custom Shading Systems

Crown Shade Company, a Baltimore-based, family-owned fabricator and distributor of custom shading solutions, faced market pressure from big-box retailers and needed to pivot to one-of-a-kind window treatments. Vice President Jared Grodnitzky turned to Xometry, using Xometry’s metal and plastic 3D printing services (and its Instant Quoting Engine) to rapidly prototype and produce end-use components for custom systems.

Xometry manufactured six custom parts for Crown Shade’s PanoView motorized system — including stainless-steel DMLS/brackets and zipper-fastening components, an SLS motorhead connector, and an HP Multi Jet Fusion motor cap — enabling a 42 ft × 12 ft shade split into safer, shippable sections with improved motor performance and aesthetics. Xometry’s quality and fast lead times let Crown Shade scale its custom division, deliver complex installs, and compete again with national retailers.
