Westar Energy, the largest electric energy provider in Kansas, needed a better way to manage a growing volume of accounts payable invoices across more than 50 remote offices. To replace costly microfiche outsourcing and improve access to poorly scanned or handwritten invoices, Westar turned to Xerox Corporation and its SMARTdocument Travel solution, integrated with IBM Content Manager.

Xerox Corporation implemented Xerox MFPs with SMARTdocument Travel to scan multiple invoices directly into Westar’s existing document management system, using barcode separator pages and image-enhancement features to improve quality and make files text-searchable. The result was easier retrieval of historical images, faster access for remote offices, and immediate cost savings by bringing imaging in-house, with invoice processing and archiving becoming more efficient and reliable.
