The City of Aurora, Colorado, faced years of budget cuts and needed to reduce operating costs without laying off employees. To find savings in its print environment, Aurora brought in Xerox Corporation to assess and improve its printer fleet and document output processes through Managed Print Services (MPS).

Xerox Corporation replaced 1,200 mostly single-function printers and copiers with about 300 networked multifunction devices, centralizing print management and outsourcing printer support. The city cut its cost per page from 5.6 cents to half a penny, saved about $250,000 a year, reduced paper purchases by 10% in the first year, and freed up IT staff to focus on higher-value work.
