McRally is a Calgary-based accounting and advisory firm co-founded in 2014 by Quan Ly and Randall McRae. As a small, cloud-first practice serving hundreds of SMB clients with a nine-person team, they faced a make-or-break choice over practice management software: it had to be simple enough to start with but powerful and flexible enough to scale without forcing costly process rework or reverting to heavyweight ERP systems—especially for accurate time tracking and deadline management.

They built the business on Xero Practice Manager (XPM) and Xero Workpapers, designing workflows around XPM’s job and time-tracking features. The result was major time savings, reliable WIP and billing reports, better deadline and staff allocation control, stronger client relationships and improved profitability—helping McRally grow its advisory services and achieve Xero Gold partner status.
