SolarEdge Case Study - EV Fleet for European Retailer

SolarEdge was tasked by a major european retailer to replace its diesel truck fleet with electric vehicles at a logistics center. The challenge was that the required high-power charging needed for the vehicles' tight schedule would necessitate an extremely costly doubling of the site's grid connection capacity. The client engaged SolarEdge to explore if expanding on-site solar and adding battery storage could reduce or avoid this grid upgrade.

Using the Xendee platform, SolarEdge sized the additional solar array and battery energy storage system (BESS) required. Xendee enabled the team to ensure charging was feasible within the one-to-two-hour window, determine the number of SolarEdge Helios batteries needed, and generate an optimized dispatch schedule. The analysis from Xendee showed that installing three battery units would allow the site to charge the EV trucks without any grid expansion. This approach avoided the costly grid upgrade and also significantly reduced grid fees, resulting in a strong financial return with a faster ROI and better NPV.
