Cummins cuts demand charges up to 65% with Xendee

The customer, Cummins, a global power technology leader, sought to validate and enhance the efficiency of its microgrid controller by integrating advanced optimization-based controls. They partnered with the vendor, Xendee, to test how Xendee's OPERATE platform could translate design-stage economic modeling into real-world, automated control of a microgrid system.

Xendee implemented its OPERATE control platform, which utilizes a Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm to optimize energy dispatch. The solution was successfully integrated with Cummins' Microgrid Controller (MGC) and tested in a live lab environment. The collaboration confirmed the technical feasibility of the integration and demonstrated cost savings, including significant demand charge reduction. The project proved that Xendee's platform could effectively command multiple assets in real-time, providing a streamlined path from microgrid design to optimized operation.
