Outdoor Channel - Customer Case study

Outdoor Channel, a major outdoor sports programming network reaching 39 million U.S. households and viewers in more than 45 countries, needed to expand storage as its digital content grew beyond the limits of its NAS capacity. The company also wanted an easy-to-use archive that would fit into existing workflows, support international channel needs, and provide a simple, reliable disaster recovery option. To meet these needs, it turned to XenData and its LTO archive solution.

XenData implemented an SX-551 Archive Server connected to a robotic Qualstar LTO tape library, presenting the archive as a network share so files could be dragged, dropped, archived, and restored like a disk-based NAS. The solution provided 684 TB of near-line capacity, support for offline LTO for effectively unlimited expansion, and duplicate tape creation for off-site protection. As a result, Outdoor Channel streamlined workflows, improved content delivery efficiency, enabled direct archive/restore from Macs, and significantly reduced storage costs and risk.
