Case Study: Ellipsis achieves next-level multiplayer, Apple TV-enabled social gaming with [x]cube LABS

A [x]cube LABS Case Study

Preview of the Elipssis Case Study

How we helped Elipssis take gaming to next level with a multiplayer mobile game

[x]cube LABS developed Ellipsis, an iOS multiplayer party game that lets one device act as host, discover players on the same Wi‑Fi and broadcast a central dashboard to Apple TV so friends and family can play together on the big screen. The primary challenge was building reliable communication between host, guests and the Apple TV over Wi‑Fi (and working around AirPlay/Apple TV constraints), which also limited hosting to iOS and created reconnection and direct-player communication limitations.

We solved this by implementing DLNA over Wi‑Fi and integrating AirPlay/Apple TV support so the host can scan for guests, sync game state and stream the dashboard with player scores and levels. The result is a smooth local multiplayer experience (solo or up to 8 players, 20 levels) and a reusable communication framework that enables future games and features—Android guest support and a Poker title using the same architecture are already planned.
