Case Study: Atari achieves rapid GUI launch, streamlined content management and multi-vendor integration with [x]cube LABS

A [x]cube LABS Case Study

Preview of the Atari Case Study

Complete graphical user interface development with multiple 3rd party integrations for Atari

xCube Labs partnered with Atari to deliver the graphical user interface and backend for the Atari VCS. Atari — a legacy interactive entertainment company — faced a complex implementation: GUI and OS integration issues, coordinating multiple vendors (OS, localization, controllers, payments, chipset), managing backend services, user and content management, and delays that affected pre-order processing.

xCube built a Unity-based GUI that boots by default with a simple grid layout and delivered a React/Node.js back office to streamline content management and uploads. Started in September 2019, the team produced an initial GUI draft for CES 2020 within three months, integrated firmware/BIOS/localization updates from multiple vendors, and simplified testing — supporting Atari’s production ramp (first 500 units announced May 29, 2020, with 10,000 units expected by year-end) and reaching 11,229 users to date.
