CBS teamed with XcubeLabs to create "Trek," a Star Trek 50th‑anniversary game that had to feel authentic to longtime fans while still offering modern, mobile‑first gameplay. The main challenges were translating deep franchise lore into meaningful mechanics and retro‑pixel art, integrating licensed audio/visual assets, and building a scalable backend that could support millions of players across a wide range of devices on a tight timeline.
XcubeLabs used rapid prototyping and iterative testing to refine mechanics and harden server architecture, collaborated with CBS’s licensing team to remaster and integrate canonical audio/visual content, and employed an efficient art pipeline to deliver the chosen aesthetic. The game launched on multiple platforms to positive fan and critical response, is stable and scalable, and continues to receive new events and updates as CBS and XcubeLabs extend the experience.
