Xamarin Helps Applied Research Save Lives with First Responder App

Applied Research Associates (ARA), an employee-owned scientific research and engineering company, needed a fast way to build a cross-platform first responder app after delivering a Java-based Android version of its Instant Notification System and being asked to create an iOS version. The challenge was to support both iOS and Android quickly while handling secure notifications, data integration, and code reuse for a mission-critical bomb squad incident app.

ARA chose Xamarin as its development platform and used it to port the Android app, share code across platforms, and reuse libraries such as SQLite and SIP authentication components. With Xamarin, ARA achieved about 70% code sharing and 50% faster app development, while also creating cleaner code and enabling future apps to be built more quickly from reusable components.
