Outback Steakhouse sizzles with its five-star restaurant apps

Outback Steakhouse, a chain operated by Bloomin’ Brands Inc., was pioneering the future of casual dining and needed to improve its digital experience for customers. The challenge was to make it faster and easier for guests to get seated and pay for their meals, moving beyond their previous HTML5 apps. They partnered with the vendor Xamarin to address this.

The solution involved replacing the old apps with fully redesigned applications built with Xamarin. The development was kickstarted with guidance from the Xamarin Client Services team and utilized an Azure backend to sync data. The hyper-focus on user experience was supported by Microsoft's automated testing service. As a result, Xamarin helped Outback create a seamless app that allows customers to view locations, join a waitlist, get notified when their table is ready, and pay at the table, an achievement that won them the 2016 Xammy Award in the Consumer Category.
