Novarum DX, based in Edinburgh, Scotland, wanted to make lateral flow diagnostic tests easier to read using smartphones without added hardware. The company needed native camera access, strong image-processing performance, and efficient cross-platform development for its Novarum Reader apps, which support medical and field diagnostics.

Xamarin provided the native cross-platform development platform Novarum DX used to build its apps for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone with about 80% code reuse. With Xamarin, Novarum DX cut resource needs roughly in half, delivered basic apps in 4–6 weeks, and generated about US$1.5 million in revenue while supporting high-impact projects like Ebola testing and geo-tagged field data collection.
