MediaMarkt, working with Wunderman Thompson Antwerp, needed a better way to promote its electronics deals online without annoying viewers. Like many retailers, it depended on promo ads to drive sales, but unskippable formats risked hurting brand likeability, especially for a brand centered on great viewing experiences.

Wunderman Thompson created “Ad without the break,” a new video ad format that lets viewers keep watching their show while a MediaMarkt promotion appears on a different screen, developed in partnership with SBS. The approach was widely appreciated, delivering 79% viewer approval, a 67% increase in likeability, and 97% ad recall, and it became a permanent online promotion format for MediaMarkt.
