A WSO2 Case Study
a large managed care organization, one of the largest in the US, faced the challenge of securely exposing medical records stored on its mainframe, DB2, and MSSQL systems as SOAP and REST web services. A major hurdle was preventing the exhaustion of its mainframe CICS Transaction Gateway (CTG) due to licensing constraints and excessive user queries, all while needing to build a highly available system without a single point of failure.
WSO2 implemented a solution using its Web Services Application Server (WSAS) and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). The WSO2 WSAS exposed the mainframe data via existing Java APIs and relational data via data services, while its built-in throttling protected the CTG. The WSO2 ESB then fronted these services to provide authentication, HIPAA-compliant logging, and high availability through an active-active clustered deployment. This allowed the client to build a manageable, highly available SOA that re-used existing systems and successfully moved into production with full support from WSO2.
