ENT Practice Breathes Easier With High Tech EMR

East Alabama Otolaryngology (East Alabama ENT), a high-volume ENT practice serving a largely rural Auburn/Opelika area, needed to replace an aging UNIX-based system. The physicians sought a web-based, all‑in‑one EMR that supported multiple data-entry methods (typing, dictation, shorthand), was certified for Meaningful Use, and would maintain or improve their strong revenue-cycle performance while reducing administrative overhead.

They implemented Waiting Room Solutions (WRS), a cloud EMR with integrated e-prescribing (SureScripts), Gateway clearinghouse billing, HCFA 1500 claim handling, scheduling, and a patient portal for online intake and reminders. The result was near‑real‑time billing (surgery charges submitted before leaving the OR), big savings on paper/postage and staff time, improved patient engagement, and stronger finances—accounts receivable fell to about three weeks and collections remain in the high‑90s—while positioning the practice for incentive programs.
