How Earth Day Network Shaved 8 Seconds Off Page Load Time

Earth Day Network, the organization behind the world’s largest environmental civic movement, needed to move its site earthday.org off a Drupal-specialist host to a WordPress-focused provider. With their previous host phasing out capabilities, an average page-render time of about 11 seconds, and the annual Earth Day spike approaching, the team required a faster, more manageable hosting solution completed without downtime.

Working with WP Engine’s onboarding team and using the auto-migration tool plus Cloudflare CNAME flattening, Earth Day Network optimized images and cleaned its database, tested performance with Pingdom, Google Analytics and WP Engine tools, and completed the migration quickly. The result was a painless switch with zero downtime on Earth Day 2017, about an 8-second reduction in page load time, and the ability to handle heavy traffic and livestream views while capturing donations and email signups.
