A WorldViz Case Study
Maastricht University, in collaboration with other educational institutions, faced the challenge of the complexity involved in building initial experiments for research using virtual reality and eye tracking. To measure cognitive load in VR training via pupillometry, the researchers turned to WorldViz and utilized their SightLab VR Pro software for Vizard to overcome this obstacle.
Using WorldViz's SightLab VR Pro experiment generator, the university was able to efficiently set up its study, which successfully validated task-evoked pupillary responses as reliable, real-time indicators of cognitive load. The results showed that difficult tasks produced significantly larger pupillary responses, and these responses positively correlated with performance measures, demonstrating their utility as objective metrics for improving instructional design in VR-based education.
