A Worldpay Case Study
WorthPoint is an online research and valuation service for antiques, art and collectibles that sells subscriptions and relies entirely on credit card revenue. The company was targeted by card‑testing fraud—bots running thousands of small authorizations (sometimes tens of thousands a day) using compromised card data—which drove up authorization costs and threatened WorthPoint’s standing with credit card companies and its legitimate revenue.
WorthPoint implemented Worldpay’s FraudSight, a multi‑layered solution using massive dynamic data sets, machine learning and expert analysis to block fraudulent authorizations before they reach issuers. The solution stopped 60,000 fraudulent authorizations in 10 days (and 37,000 in 14 days during the COVID‑19 surge), while improving approval rates, reducing false positives and preserving WorthPoint’s relationship with card networks; the company continues to expand the partnership and add proactive protections.
