Suunto, the Finnish watchmaker, set out to combine sport-watch robustness with smart-watch convenience in the Suunto 7 — including the challenge of adding secure, NFC-based wearable payments to a device used for exercise and everyday life. To bring contactless payments to the wrist, Suunto partnered with Worldline to enable wearable-payment functionality alongside Wear OS and Google Pay support.
Worldline implemented a wearable payments solution that leverages NFC contactless technology and integrates with the local banking ecosystem (currently supported by some banks such as OmaSp and Aktia through partners like Bambora). The integration made paying from the wrist simple and secure, boosting user convenience (letting shoppers and runners leave wallets and phones at home) and helping drive the broader market momentum and fast sales growth for combined sport/smart watches.
