Dudek is an Encinitas, California–based engineering and design/build firm founded in 1980 with more than 400 employees. CIO Brian Nordmann found the firm’s on-premises data center and legacy VDI couldn’t support growth or GPU‑intensive work: drone image processing could take up to five days, remote GIS engineers suffered slow file and app performance, and the legacy VDI was costly and complex to manage.

Dudek moved GPU workstations and project data to Microsoft Azure using Workspot cloud workstations (validated in a pilot), putting compute next to data for high performance. The change cut drone processing from as much as five days to about six hours, delivers better‑than‑physical workstation performance for GIS users, is expected to save about $80,000/year on drone processing alone, and enables retiring legacy VDI while improving IT agility and user productivity.
