Reliant Powers Up Business Process Testing

Reliant, an NRG company based in Houston serving about 1.5 million retail electricity customers, relied on a complex SAP CRM and SAP for Utilities landscape to run critical processes like enrollments, billing, transfers and promotions. Frequent projects, acquisitions and weekly transports into production made manual regression testing increasingly onerous—Reliant estimated about 53,000 testing hours annually—and business users were often pulled into testing and post-production support, reducing time for innovation.

To address this, Reliant implemented Worksoft Certify in December 2012 for end-to-end business process validation, building governance, reusable test libraries and a testing center of excellence. By starting with a small enrollment pilot and expanding, they automated 55% of processes within eight months, cut 2013 testing costs by roughly $600,000 and saved about 5,100 hours (with projected 2014 savings exceeding $2M and 27,600 hours), accelerated conversions (from weeks to 12 hours), and improved defect detection and reusability.
