Honda R&D Americas Accelerates SAP HANA Migration with Automated Business Process Testing

Honda R&D Americas (HRA), the U.S. arm of Honda’s engineering and design operations, needed to migrate its SAP Business Suite to SAP HANA but faced a major testing challenge: a three-month patch cycle and a five-week manual regression test that involved thousands of steps and disrupted business users. A prior automation effort in 2009 proved too slow and costly, so HRA required a faster, more scalable way to validate end-to-end processes without overburdening staff.

HRA adopted Worksoft Certify for automated business process testing, running a proof of concept that vastly increased automation speed and then using the tool throughout the SAP HANA migration. The team automated 5,463 test steps (28 steps/hour), achieved 70% coverage in five weeks with one person, reduced a potential two-month delay to two weeks, saved roughly 680 hours per test run, and freed resources to pursue RPA, IoT, big data projects and a future SAP S/4HANA migration.
