Analog Devices - Customer Case Study

Analog Devices (ADI) is a global semiconductor company (founded 1965, ~$3B FY2011 revenue, >9,300 employees) whose business depends on a complex SAP landscape first deployed in 1995. Over time ADI accumulated ~10,200 custom SAP objects, ran end-of-life CRM/DRM modules, struggled with scalability and an outdated development environment, and faced slow, risky upgrade and testing cycles — prompting a CIO-led initiative to reduce customizations, modernize to ECC6/Unicode, and cut support and infrastructure costs.

ADI executed a phased SAP transformation: re-engineering select processes, converting DRM to Partner Channel Management and upgrading to CRM 7.0, remediating custom code with smartShift, and adopting automated testing via a Worksoft Certify POC. The program reduced overall custom objects from ~10,198 to ~4,710 (~54%) and high‑impact objects by ~80%, produced robust end‑to‑end automated tests (Quote‑to‑Invoice, eQuote‑to‑Claim) with hundreds of scripted steps, trained 12 Certify users, and established test governance — enabling faster, safer upgrades and supporting the target ~20% reduction in support/infrastructure costs.
