Promote sharing of ideas and best practices

Taronga Conservation Society Australia, the not‑for‑profit that runs Taronga Zoo (Sydney) and Taronga Western Plains Zoo (Dubbo), faced low engagement and inconsistent internal communication across 900 staff and 600+ volunteers—many of whom lacked corporate email and felt disconnected from news and colleagues. To address this, Taronga deployed Workplace from Meta (Workplace) to give front‑line staff and volunteers a simple, mobile‑first channel for sharing updates and best practices.

Taronga rolled out Workplace from Meta on 1 March 2018 with a phased approach (employees first, then volunteers), created a default all‑user group, retired competing channels, and used active admins and champions to model use. Within three months adoption jumped to over 84% of employees and volunteers, with more than 72% using the mobile apps, driving a clear shift in how teams communicate, share and interact across the organisation.
