Illumina, a global leader in DNA sequencing with about 7,000 employees, needed to modernize internal communication and collaboration—moving away from slow, siloed email lists and one-way broadcasts to faster, searchable, cross-functional knowledge sharing. To enable real-time, authentic engagement across field engineers, scientists and global teams, Illumina adopted Workplace from Meta.

Using Workplace from Meta, Illumina set up product-specific SME groups, Live Video streams (with BlueJeans), pilot groups for software rollouts, and an API connector to centralize search across Workplace, SharePoint and the intranet. The change drove measurable impact: 70% of knowledge and frontline employees active weekly, 3,500 employee questions asked and answered in 2018, $12,500 raised via a Workplace photo contest, faster response times and smoother global rollouts and change management.
