Case Study: Wessex Archaeology achieves faster collaboration and knowledge-sharing with Workplace from Meta

How Workplace is helping Wessex Archaeology unearth new ways of working

Wessex Archaeology, the UK market leader in archaeological and heritage services with over 300 staff across six offices, faced siloed, old‑fashioned internal communications—reliant on email, meetings and a monthly newsletter—so field teams and specialist knowledge often remained isolated. To modernize mobile communication and connect people and projects, Wessex Archaeology implemented Workplace from Meta (with rollout support from Generation Digital).

Using Workplace from Meta—via groups, News Feed, Chat, polls and early champions training—Wessex Archaeology sped up knowledge sharing and cross‑functional collaboration: a mystery object from Bath Abbey was identified as a Roman seal box within 21 minutes rather than days, a Workplace poll (seen by 164) produced 42 “yes” votes and led to flu‑jab vouchers being distributed within a fortnight, and staff ideas such as adopting portable X‑Ray Fluorescence provoked expert follow‑up. The platform has delivered faster decisions, richer project context across offices, higher engagement and clearer routes for innovation.
