Connecting the cooperative. How using Workplace is bringing over 36,000 S Group employees together

S Group, one of Finland’s largest retail cooperatives (20 regional cooperatives, SOK and 36,000 employees plus up to 15,000 seasonal workers), faced fragmented internal communications, an inaccessible intranet (only 12,000 licenses) and a disconnect between frontline staff and corporate functions. Communications Development Manager Filip Winter led a search for a solution and selected Workplace from Meta to give every employee a familiar, mobile platform and a voice across the group.

Workplace from Meta was rolled out as the new hub, integrated with Office 365/SharePoint and Azure AD, using groups, chat, a document repository and pilot bots to enable real‑time collaboration and self‑service. The deployment has connected 36,000 employees (and accommodates seasonal staff), created peer support groups that organically scale (membership spikes of ~2,500), built a searchable FAQ, sped up issue reporting and resolution, reduced repetitive support queries and streamlined HR processes — improving customer service, employee experience and operational efficiency.
