The customer, Mastra, provided a reference implementation for an MCP docs server. WorkOS sought to quickly build their own version of this service to integrate with their product ecosystem, facing the challenge of rapidly understanding and adapting complex code without extensive manual effort.

WorkOS implemented a solution using context chaining, a method of building deep understanding with an AI and systematically applying that context across multiple deliverables. This allowed them to efficiently reverse-engineer Mastra's server, scaffold a new WorkOS-aware clone, and produce internal documentation, testing guides, and announcement content. The result was that WorkOS shipped a production-ready MCP docs server, along with all supporting materials, in approximately six hours.
