The customer, Google, faced the challenge of integrating its complex Google Workspace directory, which does not natively support the SCIM standard for pushing user events, with enterprise applications. This meant that applications could not simply rely on a standard SCIM integration to automatically receive user creation, update, and deletion events from Google's system, creating a significant hurdle for selling to large enterprise clients.

WorkOS provided a solution with its Directory Sync product, which handles the provider-specific complexity of Google's pull-based API. The solution implemented a robust, multi-tiered synchronization approach combining webhooks, delta polling, and nightly full snapshots to guarantee data correctness.
