Smartsheet, the work-execution platform used by over 75,000 organizations in 190 countries, faced the challenge of preparing its S‑1 for an IPO without relying on traditional, printer-based workflows. The company needed a reliable, secure way for internal teams and external partners (banks and law firms) to collaborate quickly while maintaining precision and control over the document.

Smartsheet adopted Workiva’s Wdesk, requiring all parties to use the cloud platform so teams could edit different sections simultaneously, see real-time updates, and enforce linked data and permission controls. The approach enabled Smartsheet to complete its first confidential filing within a month, accelerate the overall IPO process without sacrificing accuracy, and continue using the platform for ongoing financial reporting.
